Long Carry

Definition

An extra charge when the truck cannot park within 75 feet of your door. Typically $75 to $150 per 50 additional feet. Common in urban areas and properties with long driveways.

A long carry occurs when the moving truck cannot park close enough to your home, requiring the crew to carry items a longer-than-normal distance. Most movers set the standard carry at 75 feet (approximately 25 yards) from the truck to the front door.

Charges typically range from $75 to $150 for each additional 50-foot increment beyond the standard distance. The fee covers the extra labor time and physical effort required.

Common situations: narrow city streets where the truck cannot double-park, apartment complexes with parking lots far from the building, gated communities with restricted vehicle access, rural properties with long unpaved driveways, and buildings with loading docks far from the unit.

The long carry fee should be identified and included in your estimate during the in-home survey. If the estimator sees the access situation, the fee will be in the original quote. Phone or online estimates are more likely to miss this charge.
