Inventory (Descriptive Inventory)

Definition

The item-by-item list created by movers at pickup documenting every piece loaded, its condition, and any pre-existing damage. Used to verify delivery and support damage claims.

The descriptive inventory is created by the moving crew on loading day. Each item is assigned a number, described, and its condition is noted using industry-standard codes: SC (scratched), D (dented), T (torn), R (rubbed), G (gouged), etc.

At pickup, the crew leader will walk through your home and tag each item with a numbered sticker corresponding to the inventory sheet. You will review and sign the inventory before the truck departs.

At delivery, each item is checked off the inventory as it comes off the truck. Missing or damaged items should be noted on the delivery receipt immediately. Discrepancies between the pickup and delivery inventories are the basis for damage and loss claims.

Critical actions: watch the inventory process and dispute any condition codes you disagree with. If the crew marks your table as "scratched" but it is in perfect condition, say so and insist on a correction. Take your own photos of each item before it is wrapped and loaded.

Keep a copy of both the pickup and delivery inventories. These documents are essential if you need to file a claim.
