Binding Estimate

Definition

A guaranteed price for your move based on the items and services listed. You pay the quoted amount even if the actual weight is higher. However, adding items not in the original estimate can trigger a revised price.

A binding estimate locks in the total cost of your move. The mover cannot charge more than the quoted amount for the items and services included in the estimate, regardless of the actual weight.

The protection only applies to what was included in the original estimate. If you add furniture, boxes, or services on moving day that were not surveyed, the mover can issue a revised binding estimate for the additional items.

Binding estimates are calculated based on a detailed inventory of your belongings, either from an in-home survey, video survey, or detailed phone consultation. The more accurate the inventory, the more reliable the estimate.

Compare with non-binding estimates (which can change based on actual weight) and binding not-to-exceed estimates (which cap the price but allow it to go lower).
